Christmas at the River

Merry Christmas 2012
I was thinking of titling this post Salad & Swats- that about describes my girls.  Kate has wanted a salad for Christmas for the past month.  I was letting her look through the Land of Nod catalog and she found this pretend salad she HAD to have!  My friends would ask Kate what she wanted for Christmas and she would always reply, " A Salad!" Well, Mimi and Pa got her the salad and it has been a big hit :)  Now, on to Swats---Imagine a house with four precious kiddos under the age of four.  Factor in the excitement of Christmas and lack of sleep and there might be a few tantrums.  Just a few right? Well, Noah was having a "moment" (correct me if I am wrong, Sis) and was being threatened with swat or two.  Before his momma or daddy could carry out the swat our sweet Abbey ran full speed ahead and gave him 2 big swats on the head!  Everyone saw the drama!  After giving him the swats, she toddled off!  Erik claims she even said the word swat.  Noah was not a happy camper and "uncousined" Abbey for the second time in her 15 months of life :) Oh the joy of the holidays!
Christmas Eve
Love our new bath toy
So festive
We had an amazing time at the river.  Blessed would be an understatement.  There is nothing like seeing the joy of Christmas through the eyes of your children.  We feasted, laughed, danced, sang carols, made cookies and were spoiled rotten.
Here are some pics from Christmas morning.
Wouldn't want this Christmas tree waffle to go to waste- Swiper no swiping!

Playing the pretty pink piano
Love our plasma cars Mimi and Pa
Wait a minute!
Santa didn't leave those for Erik and Courtney
We decorated sugar cones to look like Christmas trees.  This was a big hit with the kiddos.
Even the littles got in on the action
Love Noah's look of concentration

We bundled up the kids and played outside.  Kate loves throwing pecans in the river and the girls loved to slide.  Kev, Courtney and Pa even took them to the neighborhood park.  They had to drive there because it was so chilly out.  On the way home Preacher Kate was belting out some songs from the cd Kiki made us.  10,000 Reasons and Lead me to the Cross are her favorites.  My dad got a big kick out of my singer girl.
Before the cold front blew in. Notice Kate pumping her arms :)
Grace loving and borrowing Abbey's jacket
Some of my parents friends had a kids dance party the day after Christmas.  I went with my parents and the bigs.  Oh how it melted my heart to see Kate and Noah being so social and dancing their little hearts out,  For a moment, I wanted to freeze time :)  They did the hookie pookie, the chicken dance and even the limbo! There was even a disco ball.

My parents watched the kids while the 4 of us went on a lunch date to the Phoenix Saloon in New Braunfels.  The boys even got a hair cut at an old timey barbershop downtown.

Thank you Mom and Dad for such a special and memorable Christmas.  Thank you for lovingly embracing the chaos of having all of us at your "little house on the Guadalupe."

Let's hope 2013 is full of family & real salads for this momma and not so many swats :)

Christmas Eve day 2012

Christmas Eve morning was spent with our Schindewolf family.  We celebrated at Don's house with Shipley Donuts, Mimosas, lots of gifts and laughs.  It was nice to spend the morning together.  Kate was so excited to get her Dora Mermaid from Trippey and Tucker and Abbey loved her Fisher Price Piggy bank.

For lunch we walked next door to Aunt Janelle's house.  The entire family was there and we had a wonderful traditional meal.  We even got Aunt Janelle's more than delicious Chocolate Cream pie--OMG I look forward to it every year.  Kate & Abbey were both good girls and appreciated all the fun gifts.  It was nice to catch up with everyone and enjoy this special holiday together.

A Cowan Christmas

We had such a great time celebrating with Susie's side of the family last night. Thank you to the Cowan & Starr family for hosting such a festive and wonderful party. Thank you to Aunt Karen, Aunt Peggy and Aunt Mary for organizing all the kiddo gifts too! Kate had a ball riding the hot wheel cars with Nathan and being so brave sitting on Santa's lap :) Abbey loved kicking the soccer ball and seeing all the big kids! She was pumped to see Santa-even giving him a few "ho ho ho's" however, she would not sit on his lap! We missed Susie so very much, but we know she was there enjoying all the family being together and laughing right along with us :)
I cannot think of a better way to start off our Christmas celebrations!
